About this blog

I am a bookworm, currently working as a clinical outreach librarian for the NHS and previously a primary school librarian. I hold a PGDip in Library and Information Management from the University of Ulster and a BSc (Hons) from the University of Bath.

There are many absolutely fantastic book blogs catering for the children’s book market so I am grateful to you for taking the time to visit mine. When I first set up a school library my main motivation for starting this blog was to review as many books as possible from the shelves of  the library, as a guide for pupils. I used to stick QR codes inside the book covers so that reviews could be scanned on iPads during busy times. This function became redundant when we subscribed to an online Library Management System which allowed adults and children to easily upload book reviews. However, I have continued writing the blog due to the fantastic book blogging community that I have discovered and which I find a kind and welcoming space to be a part of. If these posts guide anyone to a book that brings them enjoyment and encourages anyone to share the joy found within books then I will be very happy.

My work responsibilities whilst employed within a primary school included teaching children to be kind, positive and helpful online, therefore I only post positive reviews of books which I have genuinely enjoyed and can honestly recommend for a stated readership. If I read a book for which I cannot see a valuable use for any readership group then my own decision is that I do not write a review rather than posting something negative.

Since moving into a health librarian position I have broadened the scope of this blog to include YA and adult books. I will be particularly interested in reading books with a health-related focus.

Most of the books reviewed have either been purchased by me or borrowed from a library. When I receive a free copy of a book from a publisher I will always state this in my review.

  1. Hi Veronica,

Thanks for doing such a useful and informative blog. We’ve been keeping ourselves entertained by working out all the books pictured in your blog’s header, but there’s one that has us all stumped. It’s near the bottom middle and starts ‘The Thief…’. Can you tell us what book this is? We have several guesses, such as The Thief of Books (from a paranoid librarian), The Thief of Chocolate (from someone still touchy about some missing biscuits) and The Thief of Magic (from a dreamer who most likely had something to do with the missing biscuits).
