This book in three words: Gothic, Mystery, Family

The quote above sets the scene for an evening of storytelling in a villa on the shores of Lake Geneva which will produce one of the greatest works of gothic fiction of all time. I am a huge fan of historical fiction, and in the world of MG historical fiction there is no doubt in my mind that Emma Carroll rules supreme. This is my favourite of all her works: her imaginative retelling of the inspiration behind the story of Frankenstein. I urge you to read it, and then read every other book written by this incredible author.

I love books and reading! I am currently a Knowledge & Evidence specialist working in an NHS library and formerly worked as a school librarian. My personal view is that encouraging all children to find a love of books is key to their future well-being. There is an evidence base which shows a strong correlation between literacy levels and health outcomes. This is why I continue to promote children's books. They come first and it is essential to put the right book into the hands of every child to encourage them to read for pleasure. I only post positive reviews, if I don't like a book or cannot imagine it being one that I would recommend to a readership group whose interests differ from my own, I don't post a review.       1. That’s very kind! I’m now thinking about books I’ve read and loved which I haven’t reviewed – thing this might make me do some re-reading of favourites so I can shout-out about them!
