I am excited to take part in the #20BooksofSummer Challenge hosted by Cathy at 246books.com for the second year running.
Learning from my experience of last year, when I managed to read 18 books, but failed miserably to keep up with the reviews, I am going to set myself the modest target of 10 books this summer! I have definitely lost by ability to concentrate since the Covid-19 crisis began and although books offer a great deal of comfort, I definitely cannot read as quickly as I used too. Additionally, I intend reading two long books (The Mirror and the Light by Hilary Mantelland Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell) this summer which I will not be reviewing as my blog focuses solely on books for primary school-aged children.
So, here it is; one summer, three months, 93 days, 10 books! Thank you Cathy for hosting!
I love books and reading!
I am currently a Knowledge & Evidence specialist working in an NHS library and formerly worked as a school librarian. My personal view is that encouraging all children to find a love of books is key to their future well-being. There is an evidence base which shows a strong correlation between literacy levels and health outcomes. This is why I continue to promote children's books. They come first and it is essential to put the right book into the hands of every child to encourage them to read for pleasure.
My professional qualifications are: PGDip in Library and Information Management from the University of Ulster and CILIP Chartership (MCLIP).
I only post positive reviews, if I don't like a book or cannot imagine it being one that I would recommend to a readership group whose interests differ from my own, I don't post a review.
I have a particular interest in books which include health-related themes.

Good luck for this year. I took part For the first time last year and managed 14 books! I think I’ll try again this year as I won’t be having a long summer holiday abroad to distract me. 😃 I adored Eye of the North and will definitely include it on my list as I haven’t ever reviewed it, and couldn’t without a re-read. It’s the book I credit with getting me back into reading middle-grade – I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts on it. From your list, I’ve read and loved Gargantis, POG and Against all Gods. I’ve reserved the audio book of Howl’s Moving Castle. You’ve given me the nudge I need to go and decide on the rest of my list.
Thanks for your comments Mary. I bought The Eye of the North ages ago, based on so many great reviews and somehow it keeps slipping down the pile. I am determined to read it this summer! I shall look forward to looking at your list and reading your reviews too😊
Oh I’d planned to do this but not looked into it at all! I didn’t realise it started in June! I’d better get choosing some books…! And YES to Death Sets Sail!
